Siege Watch v 2.0 April 19, 1994
** use the Map control panel to set your time zone **
Description:
The major function of this clock is to keep track of the time until the next
U.S. Presidential inauguration, so you can remember to get your tuxedos pressed
and brush up on the words to "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow". The app
makes heavy use of the Speech Manager.
Requirements:
Requires System 7 or above.
The Speech Manager is highly recommended.
RAM requirements vary quite a bit depending on your color setup. If you
have a black & white system you should be able to get flicker free updates
with a relatively small partition size (≈ 65K) while 24-bit systems require
a larger amount (≈120K). If you don't mind flickering updates 50K should work
ok.
History:
initial release: v1.0d0
minor bug fix: v1.01f
• Fixed bug involving not having tested for a minimum amount of available
memory when allocating an off screen GWorld.
• Now makes sure that speech is finished before doing anything major.
current release: v2.0
• Added a whole lot of speech manager related enhancements such as controls
to choose a voice and set its characteristics. Used in conjunction with
Speech Daemon GH (which actually manages the voice).
• Changed way in which view is changed back and forth between extended and
condensed view (using cute little flag control).
• Pie chart around clock face to give graphical indication of time elapsed in
administration.
• Now accept the open/close apple events.
• At random intervals will speak a short phase which I consider funny (your
mileage may vary).

Warranty:
None whatsoever. Any damage or loss caused by this program is entirely the
users responsibility. I'll be sorry about it though.
I (Glenn Howes) place this program into the public domain. Feel free to
distribute it wherever and however you like, but please do not distribute
modified copies without consulting me.
Speech Daemon GH is free but is not in the public domain. Do not
distribute it without Siege Watch and this Read Me file.
Misc:
The included copy of Speech Daemon GH will work with Remote Speech GH 1.0 and
Speak Note GH 2.0.
This app uses 2 custom controls, a flag and a slider, which I have
released along with code for other programmers to use with their own
applications.
This app creates a preference file which stores the state of the clock window
and the speech setup.
When the current administration is over, the time till the end of the one after
that will be displayed.
You need to set your location on the globe using the Map control panel. This is
because the presidential swearing in ceremony occurs in Washington D.C. at noon
and the application needs to know the time difference between there and the
location of the computer.
You might want to put an alias (or the app itself) into the Startup Items folder
in your system folder. Put the Daemon in there too.
When the first version of this went out, there was some reference on the net to
"poor loser Republicans." Let the record show that I voted Libertarian in the
most recent Presidential election and the only person I ever voted for who won is my
Congressman, Scott Klug, whose intermittent taxpayer-mailed newsletters about how much
money he's saving are getting on my nerves.
Thanks to the rest of the family: Mom, Dad, Anne, John, David, Andy, Tommy, and
Sarah.
Doing a copy from the edit menu will put the current date/time into the clipboard.
